The University’s schools of Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Humanities and Social Science and Interdisciplinary Programs Office offer a wide array of academic programs. The University promotes interdisciplinary studies and nurtures well-rounded graduates characterized by a strong entrepreneurial spirit, innovative thinking and relevant skills to thrive in a knowledge economy.

School of Science

The School of Science offers a wide spectrum of programs which aim to enhance the students’ university experience while preparing them to meet the demands of ever-changing societal needs. The core academic disciplines include the life sciences, chemistry, mathematics, and physics.

School of Engineering

Comprised of six departments, the School of Engineering provides more than 40 degree programs at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels. The mission of the School is to become a leading university with significant international impact and strong local commitment. The Engineering discipline prides itself for innovation and creativity in providing solution for our industries and the betterment of the society.

School of Business and Management

Established just two decades ago in 1991, the HKUST Business School has risen to international prominence in a remarkably short period of time, achieving widespread global recognition and a variety of prestigious academic rankings. Always striving for excellence, our strength lies in our full range of program offerings, our high quality research, conducted by our world class faculty, and our diverse and high-caliber students.

School of Humanities and Social Science

The School of Humanities and Social Science comprises of two divisions: the Division of Humanities and the Division of Social Science. Both divisions are currently offering general education courses, undergraduate minor programs and postgraduate degree programs, including Master of Arts (MA), Master of Philosophy (MPhil) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).

Interdisciplinary Programs Office

The Interdisciplinary Programs Office (IPO) brings together two or more different fields of study and offers a brand-new type of educational experience characterized by small multicultural intake, high-powered curricula across different schools and wide-ranging personal and professional enrichment activities. IPO programs focus not only on academic skills, but character-building to foster top achievers to become responsible, contributive and caring citizens.

HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School

HKUST Fok Ying Tung Graduate School (FYTGS) was established in 2007, and is currently charged to oversee the University’s knowledge transfer endeavors in HKUST’s Mainland platforms located at Guangzhou (Guangzhou HKUST Fok Ying Tung Research Institute (FYTRI)), Shenzhen (HKUST Shenzhen Research Institute (SRI) and HKUST R and D Corporation (Shenzhen) Limited (RDCSZ)) and Foshan (HKUST LED-FPD Technology R&D Center at Foshan (FSC)). This mission is realized by technology transfer, industry collaboration, and spin-off.  It operates as an open innovation platform and contributes to the community via technology commercialization.

HKUST Institute for Public Policy

IPP engages in education and research that are interdisciplinary in nature. Its scope of mission includes a) policy research, b) postgraduate programs; and c) executive training programs. The areas of concentration will align with existing University’s strengths in science, technology, business and management, and social sciences to promote University’s strategic interests.
